Gen Z Skin Care Obsession Drives Franchise Demand
by: Lisa Ocker
The Gen Z skin care obsession is reshaping the beauty industry. Younger consumers are exerting their influence via social media and their spending habits, which has resulted in greater attention from cosmetics and skin care companies.
The founders of Skin Experts by Brentwood Spa have created a winning formula that appeals not only to Gen Z (defined roughly as those born between 1997 and 2012), but also clients of all demographics. “Young people are proactive in their approach to skin care, especially regarding anti-aging,” says Skin Experts co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer Shaya Mulcahy. “They understand the importance of maintaining a consistent skin care regimen, and they want technology and products that deliver results that enhance health, rather than masking it. They also want professional skin care that’s accessible and affordable.
“What’s interesting is that people of all ages want these things, too,” Mulcahy continues. “We’re seeing greater demand from clients of all ages, including men and women, who all want healthy, glowing skin.”

6 Gen Z Skin Care Trends
1. ‘Prejuvenation’
Social media’s pervasiveness and its emphasis on appearance has spiked interest among young digital natives in skin care, beauty and, particularly, “prejuvenation,” or the proactive approach to anti-aging. “Gen Z wants to slow down the aging process, rather than correct problems later,” CNN reports. “The age group’s popularization of ‘prejuvenation’ — procedures that focus on prevention — represents the most significant change in cosmetic dermatology in the past two decades.”
Not only does Skin Experts offer services and products to help protect young skin from the effects of aging, but also expert guidance, including information to help younger clients avoid harmful skin care mistakes.
While Gen Zers have access to more online information about skin care than ever before, that can have drawbacks. Mulcahy explains that young consumers might gravitate toward trending treatments aimed at more mature individuals, such as abrasive scrubs or overly harsh ingredients such as retinol, that could be damaging to younger skin. “Some ingredients may promise instant results, but can lead to irritation, dryness or even compromised skin barriers when used improperly,” she says. “Additionally, young consumers might believe that the more they use, the better their skin will be, leading them to overuse and misuse products, layering them on top of one another without realizing that some products and ingredients are not meant to be used at the same time.”
Skin Experts champions the growing demand for eco-friendly skin care with QÚL Beauty, a line rooted in plant-based formulations and high-quality ingredients, which benefits clients of all ages, Mulcahy says. Skin Experts also is committed to avoiding harsh chemicals, parabens and synthetic fragrances, reflecting an industry shift toward clean beauty that’s good for the skin and the planet.
2. Accessible, Affordable Skin Care
Gen Z’s beauty product expenditure totals more than $2,000 annually, which was second only to Millennials, according to Statista surveys. In 2024, almost 50% of Gen Zers reported spending more on beauty products than in the previous year, and 50% said they were even willing to cut other expenses to be able to afford beauty items. However – in spite of, or maybe because of, these hefty expenditures – Gen Zers remain value-conscious when it comes to beauty and skin care.
Skin Experts founders recognize that consumers of all ages seek affordable skin care. In fact, co-founder and Executive Chairman Tim Mulcahy says the brand’s mission is “to be the Starbucks of skin care” by making luxury facials affordable and attainable for people of all ages and skin types.
He provides the following example: “At Skin Experts, our facials use high-tech equipment and luxury QÚL Beauty products in every facial for no additional cost. At other facial spas, equipment and services such as oxygen facials and LED [light-emitting diode therapy] are available, but with add-on fees. LED is included in every facial at Skin Experts, plus an additional one to two modalities for free, depending on the facial a client chooses. We believe everyone deserves high-quality skin care and a luxury experience, so we prioritize offering value through curated treatments that deliver noticeable results with unnecessary add-on fees. This ensures clients see the benefit of investing in their skin.”
3. Regular Skin Care Regimen
Younger consumers recognize that a regular skin care regimen is the foundation for healthy, radiant skin. Skin Experts’ flexible and affordable memberships appeal to clients who understand the benefits of regular in-studio treatments customized for their unique skin care needs, complemented with products for home use that provide LED, ozone, microcurrent and other therapies.
“While in-studio treatments provide a deeper level of care and address specific concerns, what you do at home bridges the gap and ensures long-term results,” Shaya says. “Skin care routines at home do not need to be super complicated, but they allow you to address the skin’s immediate needs – hydration, protection and repair. By using high-quality products with clean ingredients tailored to your specific skin type and concerns, such as those in Skin Experts’ QÚL Beauty lineup, you will enhance your skin’s resilience and vitality. If you’re able to build healthy self-care habits at home, you can keep issues like dryness, breakouts and irritations at bay. Consistency is key to a skin care routine at home to help maintain the progress made during professional treatments.”
4. Skin Care as Self-Care
The Gen Z skin care obsession is about more than beauty, as younger consumers are increasingly focused on self-care and wellness. “Gen Z is hyper aware and knows more about skin care, the aging process and environmental stressors than any prior generation. With that, Gen Z has given anti-aging a wellness-centric rebrand,” CNN reports.
“Skin care as self-care is increasingly seen as an investment in mental and physical well-being,” Shaya says. “Skin Experts goes beyond simply addressing skin concerns by helping clients experience relaxation and rejuvenation. Our goal is for every visit to feel like a ritual of self-care, not just a service.”
5. Personalized Care
Personalization continues as a top Gen Z skin care trend. “Skin Experts leads the way with bespoke consultations and treatments tailored to individual goals, ensuring every client feels seen, heard and cared for,” Shaya says.
“A common misconception is that skin care is one-size-fits-all,” she says. “Consumers often rely on products or routines that worked for someone else, without considering their own skin’s unique needs. This can lead to ineffective results or exacerbate existing issues. Skin Experts helps dispel these myths by offering personalized advice and treatments that empower clients of all ages to understand their skin and adopt healthy habits that truly work for them.”
6. Education
“At Skin Experts, we emphasize education to help clients of all ages and skin types understand their skin’s unique needs and guide them toward effective products and habits that support their skin health now and in the future,” Shaya says.
Tim underscores the importance of education about Gen Z skin care, as well as that for clients of all demographics. “Skin care is deeply personal and often misunderstood. When clients are educated, they feel empowered to make informed decisions about their skin, which leads to better results and long-term satisfaction. Trust is equally vital. It’s the foundation of our client relationships. By providing expert guidance, personalized solutions and proven results, particularly through our membership model business, we build confidence in our services and products. This combination of education and trust not only fosters loyalty but also distinguishes Skin Experts as a leader in a competitive industry, where authenticity and expertise truly matter.”
